When a person dies, you can add their death either from their own profile or from a family member's profile.
To mark someone as deceased on their own profile
1. From the People's view, click on the individual’s name to open their profile.
2. In the Demographics/Dates section on the right-hand side of the Information tab, hover your mouse over the "Deceased" box to show the Edit option.
3. Click Edit, and then check the Deceased box. If you know the date the person passed, use the drop-down boxes to record the date and click Save.
4. Click Save. They will be marked as a deceased member.
If a death has been entered in error, edit the "deceased" field again and uncheck the box marking them as Deceased.
To mark someone as deceased from a family member's profile
1. Find and open the profile for the surviving spouse, child, or other relation that is recorded as Family in the profile.
2. Hover over the relationship showing the edit pencil.
3. Click the edit pencil and select "Mark Deceased".
4. If you know the date of the passing, click the pencil a second time and select "Edit Death Date", and use the drop-down boxes to record the date.
Notes regarding envelopes and giving:
- If you are doing this from a spousal relationship and the couple was giving jointly, this will remove the envelope number from the deceased person, leaving it assigned to the surviving spouse.
- All offerings given by the couple before this change will still be attributed to both, and all offerings given by the surviving spouse after the relationship was edited, will be attributed only to surviving spouse. Updating marriage or death information may result in a couple receiving separate contribution statements one for themselves and one for their joint giving.
